Official ballot language
All elections, including elections under state or federal law for public office, on an initiative or referendum, or to designate or authorize employee representation or individual representation, shall be by secret ballot.
Key Points
Secret ballot is a fundamental right; however, it is not guaranteed by the Utah Constitution.
Passing this Constitutional Amendment will improve Utah’s Constitution to protect one of the most fundamental and essential freedoms that we have in this democracy, the right to vote anonymously.
“This amendment does not change law; It simply confirms that what we are doing now, the current practice of providing our citizens with an anonymous ballot, is going to continue. The dramatic change will be if the federal government comes down and takes away any right to vote by secret ballot.” -- House of Representative bill sponsor Carl Wimmer
